This image was inspired by my time spent hiking and painting the trails in Cypress Hills, Sask . as a paid Guest Artist in Residence as part of a Creative Partnerships Grant between the Friends of Cypress, The Sask. Arts Board and Cypress Hills Inter- provincial Park. It was my job to hike and paint the park and to teach art classes to visitors of the park for 6 weeks in 3 separate years. I use only repurposed copper to be more environmental. Copper has long been used as an artist`s substrate back to the 14 Century by the Dutch. I like the way light is reflected back and shifts as sunlight on the trails does. I apply carving, chemical etches, mixed media and more in this series of work on copper as an exploration of the medium.
